Step 1 & 2: Design Graph & Talim Code
- Design Conceptualization (Naksha): The master designer creates a detailed scaled graph where every square represents a single knot and its exact color code.
- Talim Script Translation: For traditional Kashmiri and Persian designs, the graph is transcribed into Talim—a rhythmic chanted or written code that instructs weavers on knot sequences.
Step 3 & 4: Yarn Selection & Natural Dyeing
- Yarn Selection: We select high-grade long-staple New Zealand wool or pure Mulberry silk, hand-spinning the yarn to ensure optimal tensile strength.
- Artisanal Dyeing: Yarn hanks are immersed in temperature-controlled dye vats using colorfast Swiss dyes or organic vegetable pigments (madder root, walnut husks, indigo), then sun-dried in open courtyards.
Step 5: Loom Setup & Master Hand-Knotting
- Weaving on Vertical Looms: Warp cotton threads are tensioned across upright steel or timber looms. Master artisans sit side-by-side, tying knots row by row, hammering down weft threads with heavy iron combs to lock each knot in place.
Step 6 to 9: Washing, Sun-Drying & Shearing
- Herbal Washing (Dhulai): The woven carpet is washed with natural soaps and clean spring water, scrubbed with wooden paddles to remove loose fibers and enhance sheen.
- Courtyard Sun-Drying: The carpet is stretched flat on frames under the Indian sun to set its natural dimensions.
- Precision Shearing (Qainchi): Master shearers trim the pile with specialized curved scissors to achieve uniform height.
- Hand-Embossing (Carving): Artisans carefully bevel the edges of patterns with fine blades to create dimensional 3D relief.
Step 10 & 11: Quality Audit & Export Packaging
- 40-Point Quality Inspection: We measure knot density, check dimensional squareness, inspect color consistency, and verify fringe binding.
- Heavy-Duty Export Packaging: The rug is rolled around a rigid core, wrapped in moisture-resistant plastic, and double-encased in heavy-duty waterproof burlap for international air freight.
